Camping safaris are about active travel, immersion in the bush, and shared adventure. Our Simba Paka Camping line covers two distinct styles: an adventurous, participation-led model for active travellers, and a serviced 'Comfort Camping' line for those who want immersion without the chores.
Two camping styles for two traveller profiles
Simba Paka Camping Safaris are built for healthy, active travellers seeking an adventurous getaway. Our adventurous line is ideal for the young (and young at heart), offering a budget-friendly experience with a touch of adventure where travellers help with daily camp tasks.
We also offer Comfort Camping for travellers (commonly 40+) who want comfort, mid-luxury camps, and a dedicated crew that handles all camp duties. These trips are also family-friendly and welcome children of all ages.
Adventurous Simba Paka Camping
Maximum 16 travellers per group, two specially designed 8-seater Simba Paka safari jeeps, and a two-person crew per trip. Travellers help set up and take down tents and pitch in with cooking and chores — true African camping.
Due to physical demands, this format is not available to travellers aged 75 or older. Younger and more active travellers love the immersion and the strong group dynamic this style creates.
Tents and gear
We provide two-person dome tents with mosquito nets on doors and windows, sewn-in groundsheets, and separate flysheets. You'll share with a fellow traveller. Tents are easy to set up and your trip leader will demonstrate.
Bring your own sleeping bag (a small pillow adds comfort); the crew supplies roll mats. On clear nights you may sleep under the stars instead of in your tent — just ask your trip leader. Tents are fitted with rain covers and we carry spares for fast replacements when needed.
Campsites and bush camping
We use designated campsites along our routes, specially designed for Simba Paka travellers. Many African campsites have rustic charm and a unique 'under African skies' vibe. Facilities vary — Southern Africa tends to offer better amenities than East Africa.
Most campsites have laundry facilities for hand washing, and some feature bars, flush toilets, or charging electricity. Occasional bush camping (no fixed ablutions) means immersion in the open bush soundscape and is one of the most memorable elements of a camping safari.
Simba Paka Comfort Camping
Comfort Camping offers a more laid-back style. Each two-person dome tent comes with a camp bed, mattress, sleeping bag, and small pillow.
These safaris are fully serviced with a dedicated three-person crew managing all camp chores — cooking, cleaning, and tent setup — so you can unwind stress-free. Especially popular with travellers over 40 and families with children aged 10 and older.
