Lake Natron, Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti

This is an amazing nine -day safari in which one can experience great wildlife. It covers the stunning Lake Natron, where pink flamingos and pelicans assemble along the shores near the active volcano Ol Doinyo Lengai, an uncommonly visited and distant region. It includes Ngorongoro Crater-a special habitat within an ancient crater of a volcano-and Serengeti Valley-famous for its migratory wildebeests, zebras, cheetahs, and lions. Every park has something to be relished, hence an adventure that will remain unforgettable.

The best time for this journey is from July to October, when the flamingos breed at Lake Natron and the Serengeti becomes alive with the Great Migration. The standard package includes game drives in Seronera, Central Serengeti, but we are able to adjust your program toward other areas or adding an extra day in Kogatende, Northern Serengeti, for more thrilling wildebeest river crossings at the Mara River in late July and August.

Itinerary

Day 1:
Arrival

Kilimanjaro Airport is when the group lands (JRO). After being greeted by a Simba Paka Travel agent, where you will be taken to an Arusha hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2:
Lake Natron

You will spend this day at Lake Natron, beautiful and quiet. The lake is famous for its red-colored water because of special bacteria. This red color can be clearly seen only from above. The area around the lake has amazing African views and animals like ostriches, antelopes, zebras, and giraffes. It is far away from busy places, so not many tourists visit. It’s an ideal place to start or end your safari in northern Tanzania.

Days are pretty hot, but you can cool off in nearby springs. The water comes from the slopes of the Ngorongoro Reserve and is very clean with some sulfur in it. Some believe it’s good for your bones, but that’s not confirmed. Either way, it’s safe to enjoy. There are also African tribes residing around the lake, among them the famous Maasai. You can visit their villages and learn about the way they live.

Day 3:
Natron

Lake Natron shelters many types of beautiful birds, big and small flamingos among them. Sometimes, there are tens of thousands. It’s a fantastic sight to watch the bright pink flamingos flying. They like Lake Natron because the water’s high alkaline level keeps predators away. From September to April of every year, most of the world’s Lesser Flamingos are born here. They lay their eggs in the mud, and the chicks hatch near the shore. You can see tiny gray chicks making their first steps if you use binoculars. Soon, their feathers will become pink. Other birds living around Lake Natron include pelicans. In the wild, they are very active and fun to watch.

Day 4:
Lake Natron

Your guide will take you on a short hike to the beautiful Engaresero Falls, a spot accessible only on foot with the help of a local Maasai guide. The hike takes about an hour, so wear shoes that can get wet. You can swim in the pools beneath the falls, so bring a swimsuit and towel to enjoy the refreshing waters. In the Lake Natron area, you’ll see wildlife like giraffes, zebras, ostriches, hyenas, impalas, and wildebeests. The region also features Ol Doinyo Lengai, an active volcano known as the “Mountain of God” in the Maasai language. This spot provides amazing views and excellent opportunities for photographing the African landscape.

Day 5:
Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Day 6:
Serengeti National Park — Seronera

Today, you will go to see the world-famous Serengeti, among the largest safari parks of Tanzania, hosting the best varieties of flora and fauna. In this park, animals such as lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and antelopes can be spotted very easily. One also views the rarely spotted species: cheetahs and serval cats. The Serengeti has obtained the status of UNESCO’s World Heritage Site due to its precious ecosystem, variety in nature, and the drama associated with the Great Annual Migration of animals. Today will be spent in central Serengeti, in the beautiful area of Seronera. This is the park that inspired Disney’s *Lion King*, and for good reason: it offers a visceral and breathtaking look at the wild beauty of the African savannah.

Day 7:
Serengeti National Park — Seronera

Your adventure continues in central Serengeti, in the vibrant area of Seronera. This is a very extensive area, and you will not be able to see it all in one day. Today, your guide will take you to other hotspots and introduce you to other animals, so you get a complete view of Seronera. The Serengeti is the habitat of some of Africa’s most rare animals, including rhinos, leopards, serval cats, and caracals. With this second day, the possibility of seeing these rare creatures in the wild is hugely enhanced.

Day 8:
Serengeti National Park – Seronera

Enjoy an exciting day on your final day in central Serengeti as you explore every new moment that the fauna that rested yesterday might also start to get active and begin mingling with each other; there is a great chance you would see the stunning Kopjes-rock formations of volcanic origin-resting places of animals. Apart from this, you get to visit Simba Rock, the real-life home of the famous scene depicted in The Lion King when Mufasa shows Simba the Pride Land Savannah.
