Day 3 :
Mti mkubwa camp(2820m) - shira camp 1(3500m)
Day three starts with a gradual hike through the final stretch of the rainforest zone which gets steeper as you approach the low alpine moorland zone. The trek is short which makes it easy to Shira Camp 1. It’s a 9km distance.
Day 4:
Masai Mara /Lake Naivasha
From Shira One camp, you will proceed your trekking across and up the Shira plateau to Shira Camp two at 3850m. Here you will join trekkers from the Machame route whilst enjoying stunning views across the valley below and the western breach of Kilimanjaro above. You will proceed to Shira caldera and onto the off-the-beaten-path to Moir hut. You finish at a high altitude and you may feel altitude sickness symptoms.
Day 5 :
Moir huts (4200m ) – buffalo camp (4020m)
Begin the morning trek heading out of the moorland and into the stark alpine desert, on a steep ridge off the main trail, beginning your venture on the northern circuit route. This section of the trail offers great views across the plains that lie north of Kilimanajro.
Day 6 :
Buffalo camp ( 4020m ) – Rongai third cave ( 3800m)
As you head up buffalo ridge the terrain becomes increasingly sparse. The route is rarely traveled and we will enjoy its mountain wilderness feel. We trek through remote valleys on the northern slopes of Kilimanjaro until you arrive at the third cave.
Day 7 :
Third cave (3800m ) – school hut ( 4800m )
A steady ascent over the saddle which sits between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi peak. You continue southwest to school hut where you will be served an early dinner and go to rest as you will begin your summit bid just before midnight. The trekking distance is around 6 km.
