Main Info

Bwindi impenetrable National Park is found in Southwestern Uganda, in the mountainous region of kigzi. It is approximately 321 sq. Km.

This great jewel of a reserve is actually an ancient forest dating back 25000 years. Besides the majestic gorillas, you will discover chimpanzees, monkeys, baboons, and even antelope species.  Besides the excitement of the gorillas, Bwindi offers opportunities for colorful woodland walks through luxuriant rainforests

The altitude range in Bwindi forest is between 1,160m- 2,607 m above sea level making it a relatively cols and cool area.

In 1993, the park embarked on its first habituation exercise with Mubare gorilla group.

There are eleven habituated gorilla groups. Mubare, habiyanja, Rushegura, Bitukura, Orruzogo, Nkuringo, Nshongi, Mishaya, Kahungye, Bweza, Busingye, Nyakagezi, and Kyagururo for research.

These are over 400 species of Plants species and variety of wild life. Some of these include elephants, antelopes, bush pigs, chimpanzee, colobus monkey, baboons, black and white monkey.

With over 220 butterfly species, 348 bird species, 27 frog species.

Most impressive of all, the park has over 450 mountain gorillars- approximately half of the world`s population.

Besides Gorilla trekking, birding is popular in this park. Bird watchers out for the African amerald, Cuckoo, fly catchers, blue headed sun bird, short tailed warbler and many more.

The main birding spots are Buhoma- Water fall trail bamboo zone and Mumbwindi Swamp-Ruhija.

Itinerary

Day 1 : Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

You will be picked up from Kampala or Entebbe by the guide who will brief you about your tour. You will later be transferred to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the south west which is a 9 hours drive.
Upon arrival, check in into your accommodation, have your dinner and overnight preparing for the trekking the following day.

Day 2 : Gorilla trekking and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

You will have an early morning breakfast and with your packed lunch, you will move to the park for briefing about the gorilla trekking rules. You will trek through thick creepers and undergrowth with your guides to find the gorillas. After your trekking, you will be transfrerd to lake Bunyonyi. The drive will be in the beautiful part of the country often referred as `the Switzerland of Africa’ beacause of its unique cool weather despite being near the Equator. This lake is said to be the most beautiful places in western Uganda.
Dinner and overnight at your accommodation.

Day 3 : Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park and Bigodi Swamp walk

After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to Kibale National Park in the morning with the target to have lunch in Fort Portal area near Kibale Forest National Park. You may have a stop over viewing tea plantations along the drive through Fort Portal which is located in the shadow of the legendary Rwenzori Mountain which forms a mystic backdrop to the beautiful volcanic landscape.
Upon arrival, you will check in at your lodge for relaxation and later transferred to the Bigodi Westlands, suited on the eastern edge of the forest. There you shall take a walk in the westlands to observe plenty of wildlife including birds and many monkey species.

Day 4 : chimpanzee tracking and transfer to Kampala

After you r breakfast, you will transfer to the park to meet your guide for briefing after which you will set off to trek chimpanzees into the forest. Up to 3 large communities of chimpanzees have been habited for the tracking adventure. You will locate the chimpanzees without so much straining since the territory of each chimp community is known beforehand by advanced trackersas it will be communicated by your guides.other primate which you may spot include; red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest monkey, grey cheeked mangabey and vervet monkeys.
Return to your lodge, rest for some time before starting your journey back to kampala or to Entebbe airport.
