12 Days Machame Route

12 Days Machame Route rising above the plains of Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro is unrivaled in its spectacular natural beauty. This dormant volcano of ( 5895m ) last erupted hundreds of thousand years ago. Mt. Kilimanjaro is the perfect test for any aspiring climber who sets out to achieve this difficult yet incredibly fulfilling, personal goal to stand on the highest point of Africa.

You will follow the Machame route during the 7-day climb. This route is preferred because there is time to acclimatize along the way. During the trek, you will pass through the mountains '5' distinct ecosystems and it is truly fascinating to see how the vegetation and landscape change in altitude.

Day 1 : International flight to Tanzania

12 Days Machame RouteDepart your home country for Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Day 2 : Arrival in Tanzania

 12 Days Machame RouteWhen your international flight arrives, you will meet our representative at the airport for your transfer to your hotel in Arusha.

Day 3 : Orientation

12 Days Machame RouteYou will be welcomed in Tanzania and go over the upcoming days program during a detailed briefing. Gear check will be conducted and if you are interested you will be taken a walking tour to Arusha. Another night Arusha hotel.

Day 4 : Machame Hut

Today the trek begins, vehicle transfer to the trailhead at machame gate where you greet your porters. Your porters come from the chagga tribe an ethnic gropu that lives on the slopes of kilimanjaro . you will have ample opportunity to get to know them and their unique culture and traditions during the upcoming days. You will hike through the edge of rainforest until you reach machame hut ( 3000m ) .

Day 5 : Shira Camp

You pass through a short valley and then begin to climb. As you trek you can observe the landascape change from health forest to moor land. You eventually reach the shira plateau and not long after you arrive at shira camp ( 3800m ) for overnight.

Day 6 : Barranco Hut

Today takes you to your highest elevation yet at 14800ft. you will enjoy incredible panoramas over the landscape below. You then descend down to barranco hut for the night.

Day 7 : Karanga River Camp

Today you have another opportunity to acclimatize as you reach an elevation of 14500ft during your climb over the great barranco. From there you descend to the karanga river camp for your night. The route takes you beneath the breach wall a landmark of the mountain.

Day 8 : High camp ( Kosovo camp )

You enter the high desert plateau with todays ascent. You will notice the volcanic boulders that are strewn across the path. Once you reach your high camp at Kosovo, you rest and have an early dinner to prepare for the summit day.

Day 9 : Summit

Finally, the moment for your summit attack has arrived, hopefully you are rested for the long day ahead.
You climb in the dark of night until dawn traversing a ridge until you reach the edge of the crater. From there, you follow the craters rim until you reach the summit of Uhuru Peak at a breathtaking 5895m. you take a moment before descending to high camp and continue to your final camp on the mountain, millennium camp.

Day 10 : Return to Arusha

You wake up early and head out by 7 am. Yesterdays achievement will really sink in as you see the impressive summit looming behind you.
You follow the mweka route on the way down crossing a thick jungle filled with gigantic ferns. You enjoy a final celebration at mweka gate as well as a delicious hot buffet lunch.
Return to Arusha and spend the night at the hotel.

Day 11 : Departure

Transfer to Kilimanjaro international airport for your flight back to your home country .
